Volunteer Opportunities

“We make a living by what we get.
We make a life by what we give.”

Homeward Bound would love your help!
We have a wide variety of opportunities for volunteers willing to share their time, talent, energy and “heart.” Whether you are an individual or a group, want to volunteer for a one-time project or one day every week, we welcome your assistance.

As a volunteer you may…

  • Mentor Families Family advocates work directly with our families as mentors, guides and friends. In conjunction with our client services team, they help a family achieve their goals. By getting to know the family, watching their progress and playing a role in their move to self-sufficiency, family advocates find their role tremendously rewarding.
  • Work With Children Some of the many opportunities to work with children include reading stories in the library, leading scout groups, and tutoring students.
  • Refurbish Homes Refurbishing a home for a Homeward Bound family is a great volunteer project for groups. Gardening, painting, and doing minor fix-up are all part of rehabilitating our homes.
  • Sort, Organize or Transport Donations We receive many needed items from generous donors. These donations include household goods, food and children’s clothing, all of which need to be sorted and organized in our emergency pantries. In addition, volunteers can help by picking up furniture donations and delivering them to families.
  • Rock Babies If you like to nurture little ones, our learning center is always looking for volunteers to rock and hug babies. What a wonderful way to relax while bringing warmth and comfort to a little one.
  • Provide Office and Administrative Assistance Volunteers can assist staff with mailings, filing and data entry.
  • Hot Projects Throughout the year, drives are held to assist Homeward Bound’s families and children, including back-to-school, food and holiday drives. Special events, such as the Garden Party and Golf Tournament, help raise funds to support Homeward Bound. Volunteers are needed to facilitate these drives and events and ensure our families and children have a place to call home.
