Measures of Success

Since its inception in 1990, thousands of children and their families have graduated from the Homeward Bound program and have become self-sufficient, contributing members of society. The effectiveness of Homeward Bound is measured by each family’s transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency in 12-24 months. The success of the program is evaluated on a family-by-family basis and includes such measures as:

• Employment adequate to sustain permanent housing
• Clearing bad credit and establishing good credit
• Learning to effectively budget limited resources
• Having approximately $1,500 in savings to move to market rental housing
• Having approximately $3,000 in savings to move to home ownership
• Being off all forms of cash assistance
• Resolving medical, dental, legal and mental health issues
• Being drug and alcohol abuse free
• Parenting well
